Particle Physics: LHCb Observation of Anomalous B-Meson Decays Challenging the Standard Model

DATE: 17/05/2026

Institution:CERN

Abstract: The LHCb experiment team at CERN has observed significant differences in the frequency of B-mesons decaying into muons versus electrons, a phenomenon that violates "Lepton Flavour Universality" in the Standard Model. If these results are fully confirmed in subsequent runs, it would provide direct evidence for a "fifth fundamental force" or unknown super-heavy particles. This discovery could fundamentally rewrite our understanding of the universe's material composition and basic interactions.
