Quantum Physics: Implementation of Deterministic Logic Gates Over a 5-Meter Quantum Network

Abstract: Researchers at ETH Zurich have achieved a milestone in quantum communication by implementing deterministic logic gates between two superconducting qubits separated by a distance of 5 meters. Using a cryogenic superconducting waveguide as a "quantum artery," the experiment coherently links two independent dilution refrigerators via microwave photons. This breakthrough overcomes physical limits in scaling quantum computers, proving the feasibility of distributed quantum computing architectures and laying the hardware foundation for future multi-module, fault-tolerant quantum supercomputers.
