Abstract: As women age, the quality of oocytes declines sharply, a leading cause of infertility and miscarriage. Scientists at the Max Planck Institute used high-resolution imaging to discover that the motor protein KIF18A is significantly depleted in aging eggs. This protein is responsible for the precise alignment of chromosomes during cell division; its deficiency leads to aneuploidy. The study further demonstrates that stabilizing KIF18A levels through artificial intervention can significantly reduce division errors in aged eggs, providing a precise target for assisted reproductive technologies and anti-aging fertility drugs.
